I saw the movie Divergent today after reading author Veronica Roth's trilogy. I have to say that the cast was perfect. I know that there's been controversy over the cast looking "older" than their characters are portrayed in the books, but I think that if you let that little detail go, each cast member was a great actor for their character. Shailene Woodley and Theo James (Tris Prior and Four), had a great on-screen connection, and Shai herself put so much effort into her part- it really showed. The book did a better job of providing background information and describing the factions (aside from Abnegation and Dauntless). A few things (like how Tris' parents died) were changed a little in the movie, but the overall storyline was the same. The book did a great job of explaining why certain factions did certain things, and I just feel like that wasn't expressed clearly in the movie. Here is the the movie trailer. This movie is definitely worth seeing, but it may make a bit more sense if you read the book first (order from Barnes and Noble here).
Book Rating: 5 stars
Movie Rating: 3 1/2 stars
In this case, book wins.
